The Retreat

A house, not a campsite.

Charlie's Chalet is a private three-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin set on four secluded acres in the Tennessee mountains — a king bed in every bedroom, a jacuzzi tub in the master bath, a full kitchen, and a long covered porch strung with lights.

It's the quieter, more comfortable counterpart to glamping. No shared sites, no shared trail. Just a house in the woods for a couple settling in for a weekend, or a family filling every room.

Built and looked after by the same hands behind Salty Pines Hideaway, just down the road.

The Great Room

Vaulted ceilings, real timber.

Step inside to exposed timber beams, warm pine-paneled walls, and a vaulted ceiling that makes the whole front room feel open. Deep sofas and recliners face a big-screen TV, with plenty of seats for everybody.

It's the room the whole crew ends up in after a day on the river, with the loft stairs overhead and the kitchen close by.

The Master Suite

King bed, jacuzzi tub, cabin charm

Knotty pine walls, a king-size bed under the eaves, and a jacuzzi tub in a master bath big enough to get lost in — the master suite is where the "romantic getaway" part earns its name.

The Grounds

Four acres, entirely yours.

No shared trail, no neighboring site — just tree line in every direction, a wide-open yard, and a fire that's yours for the whole stay.

Close enough to the Ocoee and Hiwassee for a full day on the water, and to Cherokee National Forest for a full day on foot. Far enough that none of it ever feels crowded.

Things To Do

Adventure in every direction

Charlie's Chalet sits in the heart of the SE Tennessee mountains, where Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina meet — some of the best whitewater rafting, trout fishing, hiking, and scenic drives in the Southeast are minutes from the porch.

WhitewaterOcoee River Rafting

The Ocoee River is home to Class III–IV whitewater rafting and the 1996 Olympic whitewater course. Guided rafting trips run spring through fall, just a short drive from the cabin — one of the top outdoor adventures in Tennessee.

FishingHiwassee River Fly Fishing

The Hiwassee is a renowned tailwater trout fishery — rainbow and brown trout in cold, clear water, with wadeable runs and float trips. Trout fishing on the Toccoa River and Blue Ridge lakes is close by too.

HikingCherokee National Forest

Over 650,000 acres of national forest with waterfall hikes, backcountry trails, and swimming holes. Turtletown Falls, the Benton MacKaye Trail, and dozens of day hikes are all within easy reach of the cabin.

Day TripsBlue Ridge, McCaysville & Copperhill

Ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, stand in two states at once in McCaysville, GA / Copperhill, TN, and browse the shops, breweries, and restaurants of downtown Blue Ridge — all an easy, scenic drive away.

On The WaterLakes & Swimming Holes

Paddle, boat, or swim at Lake Ocoee (Parksville Lake) and Lake Blue Ridge, or cool off in the creeks and swimming holes scattered through the national forest all summer long.

More AdventureZip Lines, Horseback & Trail Rides

Zip lining, horseback riding, mountain biking, and ATV trails all operate nearby — and the crew at our sister property, Salty Pines Hideaway, can point you to the local outfitters we trust.

Every Season, Every Stay

Fall foliage, family trips & romantic getaways

Whatever brings you to the mountains, the house is ready for it.

For the leaf chasers

October in the SE Tennessee mountains is unbeatable — ridgelines of red, orange, and gold in every direction. Charlie's Chalet makes a perfect fall foliage basecamp: scenic drives along the Ocoee and through Cherokee National Forest, leaf-peeping from the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, and crisp evenings by your own private fire pit. Peak color typically runs mid-October through early November — book fall dates early.

For the whole family

Three real bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a full kitchen for family dinners, and a fenced-in yard where kids and dogs can run free. Yard games come included — bocce ball, badminton, and more, all set up and waiting. Days can be big — rafting, swimming holes, the scenic railway — and nights can be simple: s'mores at the fire pit, kids on twin cots, grown-ups in king beds. Traveling with a baby? Pack 'n play, high chair, and baby monitors are all here waiting. Got a bigger crew? There's room on the property to pitch tents too. Pet friendly, so no one gets left home.

For a romantic escape

A couples getaway that's actually secluded — no neighbors, no noise, just string lights on the porch, a fire under the stars, a king bed, a jacuzzi tub in the master bath, and mountain mornings with coffee for two. Add a wine-tasting hike or a quiet float on the Hiwassee, and dinner out in Blue Ridge. Anniversaries, babymoons, or a no-reason-at-all weekend: this is the spot.

The Copper Basin · Minutes Away

Two states, one epic town

McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN are twin towns split right down the middle by a state line — and they're just minutes from Charlie's Chalet. One of the most unique and charming destinations in the entire Southeast.

Stand in Two States

The famous Blue Line runs right through the center of town — put one foot in Georgia, one in Tennessee, and snap the photo. It sounds simple. Everyone loves it. A genuine bucket-list moment hiding in plain sight, minutes from your porch.

Hiwassee River Rail Adventure

One of the most spectacular train rides in the Southeast, departing from Delano, TN. The Hiwassee Loop is a 50-mile round trip through the Hiwassee River Gorge with a rare spiral loop where the train crosses over itself — one of only six in North America, and the only one east of the Mississippi. Want the full day? The Copperhill Special is a 94-mile round trip with a 90-minute layover to eat, shop, and stand on the state line.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

The beloved vintage railway runs seasonally from Blue Ridge, GA to McCaysville/Copperhill — a stunning ride along the Toccoa River through North Georgia mountain scenery. Perfect for families and couples; combine it with lunch in McCaysville for the perfect day trip.

Craft Breweries

Copperhill Brewery sits right on the famous Blue Line — order a pint with one foot in Tennessee and the other in Georgia. Buck Bald Brewing is another local favorite. Both pour exceptional craft beer with mountain views to match.

Shops, Food & Coffee

The Riverwalk Shops on the Toccoa River feature riverfront restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and locally made goods. Rum Cake Lady serves authentic Cuban sandwiches and cafecito in a classic old gas station, and Yellowbird Coffee pours in a converted bank building near the old steel bridge.

The Copper Grill

Hearty burgers and Southern comfort food served right on the state line — the dining room literally straddles Tennessee and Georgia. A local favorite in the Copper Basin, minutes from the cabin.
